Biography

Costa Latsos started his vocal studies in Sydney, Australia under the tutelage of tenor Reginald Byers prior to moving to Italy in 2006.

Costa has a broad performance experience from working with traditional theatrical texts to contemporary theatre practices; being involved in several projects supported by the Australian Arts Council in Sydney, Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Arts at The University of New South Wales (Theatre, Film and Dance).

In 2003 and 2004 he won the Tenor Award in The City of Sydney Eistoddford.

He made his operatic debut in Australia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann followed by La Boheme (directed by Christa Leahmann), Don Giovanni (dir. by Ghillian Sullivan) and continued to perform in The Merry Widow and the Greek opera, The Masterbuilder (dir. by Konstantin Koukias).

Since moving to Europe he has sung and worked with Grace Bumbry, David L. Jones, Janet Williams, Richard Bonynge, John Norris, Laura Bulian and Phil Pratt. He has participated in many concerts around Italy, Australia, Russia and Germany and masterclasses with LTL Opera Studio at Teatro Giglio, Lucca; Giovanna Lomazzi (AsLiCo); Alberto Paloscia (Teatro Goldoni, Livorno), Enrico Stinchelli and Maestro Marco Zambelli.

Since being in Europe he has been engaged to perform in Don Giovanni, L’Elisir d’Amore, Anna Bolena, Rigoletto, La Boheme, Tosca, Il Trovatore, La Traviata, Viva la Mamma, The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus, Sweeny Todd, Pagliacci, Iolanta, Der Rosenkavalier, Philemon und Baucis, Das Land des Lächelns, Werther and Carmen.

Since moving to Berlin in 2016 Costa has been engaged in many projects in and around Europe including being asked to participate in the Education division of the Berlin Philharmonie under the musical direction of Sir Simon Rattle; revisting Rodolfo in La Boheme with The Berlin Opera Group, Teatro Govi in Genova, Italy and The Black Cat Opera in Guildford, England; debuting Werther in Crema, Italy; performing the solo male parts in Carmina Burana; returning to Bodensee as Alfred in Die Fledermaus and recently debuting Percy in Anna Bolena for Oper Halle for whom he performed Pirelli in Sweeny Todd. He debuted as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly for Stadttheater Bremerhaven in December 2018, and was featured as a soloist for Theater Hagen in Viva Verdi, jumped in as Cavaradossi in Tosca with Theater Osnabrück whilst engaged as Heurtal in the German premiere of Magnard’s Guercoeur in the Spring of 2019 (also broadcast on Deutschlandfunk Kultur).

Costa is currently engaged by the Anhaltisches Theater, Dessau where he is scheduled to sing in the 2021/22 season Il Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, Ein Sänger in Der Rosenkavalier, Vaudémont in Iolanta by Tchaikovsky and Sou Chong in Das Land des Lächelns by Lehar.

Costa has also created and performed a one man comedy show based on the life of Mario Lanza in Sydney, Berlin, SilverSea Cruises and The Festival of the Aegean in Syros, Greece called Mario Lasagna: Be My Love, which he plans to continue to tour around the world.

Costa is a dual citizen of Australia and Greece.
